One quiet evening, I was sitting alone in a park. It was already quite dark, the kind of darkness that makes an ordinary place feel slightly unfamiliar. Every tree cast a long shadow beneath the lanterns, and because it was a warm, windy summer night, those shadows seemed to move. They stretched across the path and danced together in a strange, fascinating rhythm. I became so absorbed in watching them that I didn’t even notice when a stranger sat down beside me. He was wearing a hat and a long coat. His face remained hidden in the shadows, yet strangely, I wasn’t afraid. I didn’t even feel the need to look at him properly. For a while, we simply sat there in silence. But it was a good silence. The kind of silence shared by two old friends meeting again after many years, when words are unnecessary because somehow everything has already been understood. After some time, I turned slightly toward him and said, “Please… tell me your story. ”And he did. He told me about the sad things that had happened throughout his life. About people he wished he had never met. About friendships that became disappointments, trust that ended in betrayal, and moments when he had believed life would become something very different from what it eventually became. I listened without interrupting. Finally, when his story was almost finished, he said something that surprised me.“But now I’m very happy. ”I looked at him. “Why? After everything you’ve been through?”
He nodded. “Because now I have one person who understands me.” “Who?” He turned toward me. “You.” I laughed softly, confused. “Sir, we barely know each other.” He smiled. “It was always you. You were the only one who understood.” Then he stood up. Before I could ask what he meant, he stepped away from the bench and walked toward the moving shadows beneath the trees. For a moment, I could still see the outline of his coat among them. Then the shadows shifted. And he was gone. I remained on the bench for a long time afterward, wondering whether I had just met a stranger…or someone whose story had somehow been waiting for me all along. And that quiet summer evening became the beginning of “Tell Me the Story.”
